Place of birth:
Mt. Vernon, Ohio (Amish country).

Family information:
I’ve been married to Doug since 1985 and we have 3 children:  Jocelyn (’91), Charisse (’93), and Paul (’96).  We also have a Yorkie, named Tinker Bell, or Tink for short, which came to live with us in ’99 and is very much a part of the family.

How did you come to NHC?
I came alongside my husband, Doug, when he was hired as the first pastor of North Hills, shortly after the church was birthed.

What is your role at NHC?
I wear different hats, being a pastor’s wife and also on staff part-time. I chair a committee of very talented women who plan events for women and I also oversee the women who lead our various Bible studies.

What is the best part about your role?
I love leading worship and being radiant for God through praise and song!

Who is your favorite character in the biblical story? Why? How do you identify with him/her?
There are so many women who stand out like Deborah, Abigail, and Esther, who dared to be used by God and were obedient to His leading.  I like that because they were living in cultures where women had the whole deck stacked against them and yet they didn’t let that dissuade them or excuse them.  I’m inspired by their faith and courage.

Who are your favorite sports teams?
I root for the Angels and Ohio State.  Go Buckeyes! ;)

Who is your favorite musical artist or group?
Sara Groves, Chris Tomlin, Hillsong, and Passion are among many I listen to.  I also love listening to classical music and jazz.

What were you like in junior high?  Why?
I was very, very shy—painfully so!  I was intuitive and small for my age and not yet able to express my thoughts/opinions to the larger world, other than my family and a few close friends.  Typical Junior High nerd-iness and insecurity and, yes, I lived through it.

If you could only have one book to read (other than the Bible), what would it be?  Why?
That’s a tough one because I love to read…Pride and Prejudice (Jane Austen) stands out as being one that could be read again and again.

If you could choose your last meal on earth, what would it be?  Why?
Lobster, some kind of fabulous salad, roasted vegetables and dark squaw bread, with chocolate soufflé for dessert.  Mmm…makes me want to go to the Chart House right now.

What makes you laugh?
Books like Peace Like a River (Engel), movies like Nacho Libre & Princess Bride, people who are humorous, like my son, Paul, and good jokes—clean, of course.

What makes you cry?
Beauty.  I cry when I read a good book like Uncle Tom’s Cabin (Harriet Beecher Stowe) or listen to exquisitely beautiful music like Puccini’s La Boheme, or when I see a great film like It’s a Wonderful Life.  Being in the Lord’s presence often brings tears of cleansing and joy—I’m often overwhelmed by His love for me!

Tears also come when I am confronted with the pain and suffering in this world; knowing that people don’t know Jesus; or, watching people reject God and go their own way.  That makes me really sad.
